2003 Spring Blossom Festival
The Spring Blossom Festival was put together by the Kona Coffee Council and was held at the Yano Hall in Captain Cook. This was our first competition that we entered and we won first place in both the Mauka Dark Roast Division and first place in the Organic Medium Roast Division.

Winner 1st place Mauka Dark Roast
Winner 1st place Organic Medium Roast
2004 Cream of the Crop
The Cream of the Crop competition was started by the Kona Coffee Council after the first Spring Blossom Festival. The Cream of the Crop Competition venue was chosen to be the Kona Village Resort on the beautiful Kohala Coast at Ka`upulehu in Hualalai. There were three divisions, Organic, Estate and Open. There was a gold and silver metal for each division. Additionally, there were two classifications of awards. There was the Chef's Choice, which is a blind tasting, and the chef's don't know who's coffee they are drinking. There is also a People's Choice classification where the people at the event judge the coffee. The people know who's coffee they are drinking when they make their determination. In 2004 we won both Gold Metal for People's choice and Gold Metal for Chef's Choice in the Organic Estate Coffee.
- Winner Gold Chef's Choice Organic Estate
- Winner Gold People's Choice Organic Estate
2005 Cream of the Crop
2005 was the first year that the Cream of the Crop competition was held at the prestigious Four Seasons Resort at historic Ka`upulehu in Hualalai. The resort is very beautiful and is brand new. In fact, it is still growing every day. The contest was split into three divisions, the Open Division, Estate Division, and Organic Division. It is noteworthy to add that Mountain Thunder was only allowed to enter one division in this contest. In the past, such as in the 2003 Spring Blossom Festival, we were allowed to enter our exceptional conventionally grown coffee, which won first place. If we were allowed to enter our regular Kona Coffee, we feel that it would have won honorable mention as well. However, since we feel that the Organic division is one of the most prestigious and most difficult divisions available to compete in, we only entered our Organic Coffee. In 2005 Mountain Thunder won Silver for Chef's choice and Gold for People's Choice, both in the Organic Division.
- Winner Silver Chef's Choice Organic Estate
- Winner Gold People's Choice Organic Estate
2006 Cream of the Crop
Again, in 2006, the Cream of the Crop Cupping Competition was held at the Four Seasons Resort at historic Ka`upulehu in Hualalai. The three divisions remained with the Open Division, Estate Division, and Organic Division open by application only. Each farm was only allowed to enter in one division per contest. Mountain Thunder is dedicated to Organic Agriculture, so we entered in the Organic Division. In 2006 Mountain Thunder took home the Gold Metal for the Chef's Choice, which is a blind tasting.

Winner Gold Metal Chef's Choice
2006 Kona Farmer's Association Cupping Competition
This competition's venue was at the Lani Hau Center in Downtown Kailua Kona. The entire competition was open to farms who completed an application. What is special about this cupping competition is that there are no divisions to enter. There is one winner-takes-all contest. It doesn't matter what type of coffee you are growing, you are put into one large group and everyone votes for the best. The people at the competition get to vote for their best choice of all the farms entered. And when pitted with all the farms entered, Mountain Thunder took the Gold Metal. This means that Mountain Thunder was voted the best coffee of the year.
- Winner Gold Metal People's Choice
